Christmas Events at St Bart’s 2016

Many visitors were welcomed into church from late November, when a packed church took part in a short service before the village Christmas lights’  switch-on, to the last service on Christmas Day.   Carol Services, schools’ and preschool’s Christmas services, Christingle – church was full on each occasion.   On 3 December, the first Ripponden  Christmas Festival took place with the Chair of Ripponden Parish Council and Consort in attendance in the church.    Father Christmas was a very popular attraction in the community centre where there were various activities for children while they waited to see him.   Church was packed with Christmas shoppers at the various stalls and outside in the car park a further selection of attractive stalls drew in the crowds.   There was entertainment in the Bridge Inn car park, the weather was kind and, to date, about £2600 has been raised for St Bart’s church.    If you missed it, then put Saturday 2 December 2017 in your diary when it will be happening all over again!  St Bart’s is indebted to the organisers of the outdoor events for increasing the footfall in church and the community centre through their excellent publicity.

The Church has received a new Memorial Bench, donated by the late Mabel Goulding in loving memory of her husband, Harry Goulding DFM who died in 1984.

Harry was a member of St.Bartholomew’s Church Council.

Harvest Festival Service

It is always such a pleasure to see members of the uniformed groups at any of our services and, this year, the Beavers joined the regular congregation for the Harvest service.

Donations of dried goods and £163 cash towards shipping costs were gratefully received by the Christian African Relief Trust.

Along with the other churches in the benefice, a retiring collection was taken during October for the Haiti Hurricane Relief Fund.

Charity Market Stall in Halifax

At the end of September, the charity stall in Halifax raised nearly £280 for St Bart’s.   This was one of the more successful stalls with plenty of helpers, fabulous weather and good quality items to sell.   We had been given carloads of clothes for adults and young children and many people went home with some good bargains that day.   The Mothers Union Diocesan Outreach Worker gave an update on the remaining clothes from the stall.  The babies’ bibs and clothes went to the Teenage Parent Project and also overseas and all the ladies’ clothes were  gratefully received at New Hall Prison – both casual clothes as well as smarter ones for court appearances.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

A magnificent £183 was raised after church one Sunday in early October. Special thanks go to the ladies who made the delicious cakes.
