January 2014

The Confirmation was held at Barkisland on Sunday 5 January.  Two of our congregation, Henry and Charlie, were among the candidates.

The draw for the 100 Club was held a week later than usual as there was no morning service at St Bart’s on the first Sunday of the month.  The winning numbers were:

1) Ruby Grant – 14

2) Ann Teasdale – 43

3) Antonia Kinlan – 47

On Saturday 18 January, around 30 people enjoyed an Epiphany Supper in the community centre.  The meal was a pie and pea supper, beautifully cooked as usual by Margaret Sharpe. After the main course we were entertained by Joe, who played the trumpet and flugelhorn and his companion who accompanied on the keyboard. {The entertainment came half way through the meal as they had to go off to another gig} They played a mixture of popular classics and some trumpet virtuoso pieces.

The meal continued with the traditional Epiphany cake which contained an almond. The person who had the almond was crowned King for the rest of the evening. This year that position went to Jim McAndrew.   It was obviously a successful evening as nobody seemed to be in a hurry to go home.

The following evening, the Epiphany Carol Service was held in church.
