On Sunday 1 July we held our annual Garden Party & Duck Race in aid of the Restoration & Refurbishment Fund. The weather was decidedly uncertain and some of the outdoor activities for children had to be held inside rather less successfully than we had hoped. However, we raised over £935 which was a profit of £515 from the Duck Race, with 665 yellow ducks launched into the River Ryburn from the Pack Horse Bridge by Cllr Andrew Naylor and the Vicar, Rev Chris Wray. As far as we know they have all been retrieved, though last year one got away for the best part of nine months!
The winning ducks were:
1st prize £75 Angharad (Switzerland)
2nd Prize £50 Declan (Barkisland)
3rd Prize £25 Carly (Bridge Inn)
This year, we had teddies flying down a zipwire from the community centre to the rather sodden grass below; a last minute, but very popular attraction was Aaron Bell and his Olympic Torch. Welly-wanging, the human fruit machine plus the usual stalls and refreshments, not to mention the belated appearance of the sun, all made for a good afternoon, enjoyed by all ages.
