January 2013

After another busy year of fund-raising and social events at St Bart’s in 2012, culminating in the successful 3rd winter market on 8 December, the year has got off to a delayed start due to snow.  Last Saturday, 19 January, we reluctantly postponed the Epiphany Supper due to the weather.  It will now be held on 9 February. The 100 Club now has nearly 70 members so the first draw can be made in February, once all the standing orders and cheques have been processed.  New members are still welcome – the idea is to have 100 members but the … Read more…

Craft Fair at Ripponden J & I School Saturday 17 November

This is our major fund-raising event of the year, an occasion members of the church have been working towards throughout the year.  It was opened by the Chairman of Ripponden Parish Council, Mr Andrew Naylor and Mrs Naylor.  Attractions included the popular Rolling Raffle, the preserve stall, craft stalls, tombolas, face painting, chocolate fountain, cakes and savouries, a children’s prize-every-time Christmas tree, gift stall, container plants and an increased cafe area for coffees and lunches. The total raised was £2000 – this was slightly down on previous years but the footfall was actually higher, which was very encouraging. … Read more…

Christmas Craft Fair 2012 – 17th November

ST  BARTHOLOMEW’S  CHRISTMAS  CRAFT  FAIR SATURDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2012 10.30 am – 2 pm   Arrangements for this year’s Craft Fair are well under way.  However, you will note that the starting time has been changed to 10.30 am which will give us more time to set up during the morning as time is limited on Friday evening.  We will also concentrate more on lunches, as this year we are conscious that we will not have as many craft items. The space for the “miscellaneous” table has been halved which will enable us to choose quality items to sell rather … Read more…

Heritage Sunday – 9 September 2012

32 adults and 6 children visited the church between 11.30 am and 5 .0 pm   We had visitors from the locality but also visitors from Lytham St Annes, Oldham and Surrey. Visits to the bell tower were very popular and we heard the bells ringing all afternoon. Tea, coffee and home made cakes were served. For the first time we had a Time Line telling us about the local history down one side of the church. Old photographs and documents were on display.

Rushbearing Sunday

Rushbearing Sunday     The sun shone, amazingly after the summer we’ve had and there was a pretty good turnout on Sunday afternoon.  Church was open for visitors with the annual Songs of Praise service at 5.30 pm.  Apart from  fundraising stalls for  church funds and Mothers’ Union, we were joined by Toybox, Ripponden in Bloom and Ripponden with Rishworth WI.  New this year was a very successful coconut shy, plus Play your Cards right and a raffle to win a mini by Utility Warehouse.  We also raffled a gold  Millennium Cross generously donated by Toll House Jewellery.  The total exceeded … Read more…
