100 club

At the PCC meeting held on 27 January 2014, it was agreed to use the proceeds from the 100 club to replace the notice board outside church which is in need of much attention.   Enquiries are currently being made as to whether or not it can be repaired and restored to its former glory or whether a new noticeboard is now necessary.  £1300 is available to spend. During the first year (Feb 2013 – Jan 3014) 85 people subscribed to the 100 Club, a little below our target of 100 members. In total, £2380 has been raised for the … Read more…

September 2013

On 8 September, we were once again blessed with good weather for Rushbearing Sunday.  The jury is out on whether or not there were quite as many people milling round the church in the afternoon as usual but we had another successful afternoon’s fund-raising, with nearly £1100 being raised for general funds.                                   The new chairs and tables for the community centre, courtesy of another successful grant application, have finally arrived and are much admired.   The results of the 100 club draw in … Read more…

August 2013

We are now preparing to say farewell to our Vicar, Rev Chris Wray, whose last service will be a Benefice Service at 11.00 am on Sunday 25 August, followed by lunch in the community centre.   After Chris’ departure, we will move onto the next stage of seeking a new incumbent.  A lot of work has already taken place but we can’t advertise the vacancy until the present incumbent retires.    The interregnum will pose new challenges but is a time of opportunity as well. The 100 club winners this month were: 1st S Sotnyk (26), 2nd J Wood (8) and … Read more…

Divine Feasts

Divine Feasts is a follow-up to Divine Delicacies which was produced in 2008 and raised over £2500 for the Restoration Fund.  This book also involves just about everyone in the valley, ranging from residents to local restaurants, pubs, cafes and takeaways, a farm shop, schools, a newsagents and a post office.  It includes a lot of interesting food facts, amusing accounts of feasts and quotes from literature on eating and drinking.  One of the most fascinating bits of local history in the book is how shopping has changed in the village since the 1950s.  A list has been compiled of the shops around … Read more…

Children at St Bartholomew’s

Little Fishes, our group for pre-school children and their carers, celebrated Easter at our April meeting. We heard the Holy Week and Easter story, after which the children decorated a garland with pictures of the main Easter events. Next month we will be having a ‘picnic’  as we will be looking at the feeding of the five thousand.
